Edgycute: From Neon-Pop to Lowbrow and Back Again   Bookmark and Share Rivet Exhibition

$45.00

Brand Last Gasp
Medium
Size 10.00in Wide x 12.00in High

Doe-eyed girls in pink dresses, animated desserts, bubbly cartoon characters ? at first blush these qualities seem to define the work contained in EdgyCute. But a closer look reveals the dead rat on a plate, lurking skeletons, the crying birdhouse; there is nothing sugary-sweet about those cupcakes and Pinocchio will use that revolver he's holding. Harry Saylor, owner of Orbit Gallery, and Carolyn Frisch have assembled a motley band of artists that dwell in the nether regions of our imaginations where malevolence and immorality transmogrify purity and naivety, breeding the EdgyCute aesthetic. While the work of these 47 artists varies greatly, it all strikes irresistible poses that have found their ways into museums and galleries, marketing campaigns and our dreams. List of contributors: Ana Bagayan, Gary Baseman, Becca, Mike Bell, Jeff Burnette, Robbie Busch, Michael Caines, Nicoletta Ciccoli, Alexis Covato, CRASH (John Matos), Chris Crites, Gerd Dagne, Kirsten Easthope, Jarrod Eastman, Greg Gossell, Rodney Alan Greenblat, Ryan Heshka, Brian Holderman, Angelique Houtkamp, Curtis Jobling, Jeremiah Ketner, Travis Lampe, Lex, Todd Marrone, Angie Mason, Hal Mayforth, Elizabeth McGrath, Brandi Milne, Motomichi Nakamura, Mitch O'Connell, Kathie Olivas, Emma Overman, Daron Parton, Brandt Peters, Lisa Petrucci, Mark Atomos Pilon, Judy Ragagli, Kevin Scalzo, Joe Scarano, Shag, Matte Stephens, Vivienne Strauss, Gary Taxali, Brian Taylor, Chris Uminga, Brian Viveros, Keith Weesner, Donald Roller Wilson, Derek Yaniger.
