Featuring the art of
Amanda Spayd Anna Chambers
Medina, OH Berkeley, CA
I am never without a bevy of silent, loyal friends, because I make my own out of hand-dyed fabric scraps and glass eyes. I search for things that are innocent, even in their ugliness, unbound by conventions of adult properness, or how ratty things have to be before they are thrown away. I am formally trained in Graphic Design and work full-time as a commercial artist at a major greeting card corporation. I live in a triangle-shaped house south of Cleveland, with my husband, a soap laboratory, various medical antiques, and probably more than 50 analog synthesizers. I work in television animation, and make plush as my hobby. I also do illustration work. I like swimming, eating good food, and listening to music. My favorite thing to do is sleep in.

Bastet2329 Bytedust
Los Angeles, CA Utretch, Netherlands
Cristie Couch is a creepy doll artist from Los Angeles.
BYTEDUST is a creative initiative inspired by urban life, street art, designer-toys, music, and my, Dennis Douven's, other personal interests like Science. My passion for designing started in 2002, and I set up an individual design project with 'Hazchem' (Hazardous Chemicals) as the main theme, creating black and white designs for T-shirts and street art stickers. Appreciating other artist's work and attending freetekno parties in the Netherlands, my personal street art interpretation gradually developed into Bytedust. Through internet message boards I interacted with other stickers artists and further involvment in design contests and collaborations led to more of my designs being printed on clothing, stickers and posters. Through trading, my stickers ended up at locations all over the world. My sticker art passion is complemented by my passion for designer toys. These highly collectible and limited edition toys designed by artists encouraged me to transform my 2D characters into a 3D figure. The initial results were Cloud-X, Hazmate and other exclusive handmade plush toys that appeared in shops, webstores, art shows, and magazines worldwide. My enthusiasm for design caused me to set up an one-man business in Visual Art en Design, creating innovative designs for companies, museums, and organizations looking for fresh and different design work.

A bit about us: my brother, Jack and I are telepathic. I live in Columbus, OH and Jack lives in Chicago. We came up for the idea for Mr. Pickles on the exact same day about 400 miles apart. Jack thought "He's a pickle that wears glasses." I thought back "Yes, and we'll have an awesome website and sell rad stuff." And then Jack thought "I hope your husband, Eric, can sew." And then I thought "You bet! And let's call ourselves Fatty and Humper Designs, because our dogs are nicknamed Fatty and Humper." And Jack thought "Dude, I know!" And that is the totally true story of how we started our company!

Patches Serena Kuhl
Columbus, OH Jingili, Australia
Nora Bell is eight years old, but she has TONS of plushie experience under her small belt. Not only does she own an impressive collection of the fluffy creatures, but she pretty much creates them constantly. Like all the time. She calls her business PATCHES because she is not bound by society's rules of "closed seams" or "tightly sewn on buttons". PATCHES makes you think of something raw and maybe frayed. That's Nora!

Born in Australia I originally trained in sculpture, obtaining a Batchelor Degree in Fine Arts, so I knew more of welding and casting then sewing. My first plush adventure started as part of a group show called "Male", for which I made a pile of cute plush phalli. Since then, I've participated in several plush solo shows in Darwin and have shown works in group shows in many cities in the US and Australia. You can find my work at Wootini, Sweatyfrog, Pink Ghost, Plastic Passion, Whitewall, Uncle Festers, Nasty Vinyl, and Schmancy.

Sharon Bell Trevor Zammit
Columbus, OH Columbus, OH
Sharon likes to create paintings that make people smile or laugh or think nice thoughts. And sometimes she likes to create paintings that make people uncomfortable or confused or want to back away slowly. She likes to call these feelings "warm fuzzies" or "cold scratchies". Her artistic heroes, not surprisingly, include Maurice Sendak, Lane Smith, Tim Burton and Dave McKean among others. Sharon grew up in Cincinnati, went to OSU in Columbus, graduated, worked in laboratories, got married, moved around about a dozen times, had two children, then moved back to Columbus. She didn't even realize there was art waiting to get out until after the birth of her first child. But, soon after, out it came, and for the last five years Sharon has been painting and finding places to exhibit her work. She hopes to keep finding people (with disposable income) who appreciate her strange sense of humor and eventually, some day in the hopefully not too distant future she would like to explore creating a children's book.
